Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest and pioneering departments of the NEC. The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2002 with an intake of 60 students under the guidance of former ISRO Scientist Dr. B. KanakaRaju, the then Principal of NEC.
Since the day of starting, Mechanical department has shown a spectacular academic success, so today intake into our dept is 240B.Tech students and two M.Tech programmes namely Machine Design and Thermal Engineering with intake of 24 each.
The faculty strength is 56 out of which 8 are Professors, 7 are Associate Professors and rest of the faculty are Asst Professors. The specializations of the faculty are well balanced into Design Engg, Thermal Engg, Manufacturing Engg and Industrial Engg disciplines to cater the needs of students. The faculty focuses their research interest on multi-disciplinary areas covering Intelligent Manufacturing, Nanotechnology, Artificial Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic Applications, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Composite Materials etc. The faculty published over 116 research papers in reputed journals during the last five years.
The department has well equipped state-of-the-art Laboratories namely Workshop, Machine Tools lab, Production Technology Lab, Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machinery lab, CAD/CAM lab, Thermal Engineering lab, Heat Transfer lab, MOS Lab, Instrumentation & Metrology lab and Materials Science & Metallurgy Lab.
The department deals all the Core Engg subjects, through an attached Software module from Main Software like ANSYS, Pro-E, AUTO CAD, MASTER CAM etc. All the faculties are well trained in these softwares.
The Department organizes National Work Shops, Guest lectures and Certificate Courses (Like CITD) on regular intervals. The Department has excellent placement record with 100 percent placement for 2008-12 batch students. The major recruiters are TCS, Vasantha Tools, Jyothi Turbo, Power Mech, Vegha, Victory, Blue Ray Infra etc.
The department has signed Live and working MOUs’ with Industries like JOCIL, Sri Lakshmi Ganapathi Engineering Works (Tenali), Engineers CADD Centre (Vijayawada), APSRTC (Vijayawada) etc.
The department has been recognized as approved research centre by JNTUK-Kakinada and the college has established exclusive research facilities for the purpose.
